Typically a new patient appointment will last 45 minutes and you will undergo a private one-to-one consultation with the Doctor of Chiropractic where you can explain your pains and or any other health issue you feel may be relevant. This is followed by an examination, which normally includes neurological, orthopaedic tests plus other general health tests such as a blood pressure examination. An X-ray may also be taken at this point if it is deemed necessary by the Chiropractor.
Once the consultation and examination has been completed the Chiropractor will review the case and invite you back the following day, or at your next earliest convenience, for a verbal Report of Findings which can last 30-45 mins. During this appointment the Chiropractor will explain in understandable detail what has been found, how it is causing the pain and problems, how it can be fixed and how much it will cost you. If Chiropractic is not deemed suitable for your problem we will refer you to the appropriate health professional.
You will then have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and decide whether to go ahead with treatment. There is no obligation, but most patients will now receive their first chiropractic treatment. The sooner you start treatment, the sooner you will start feeling better.
The treatment plans are individually tailored to suit you and your problem. Each plan will usually involve an initial intensive phase to improve function and to reduce pain and inflammation. This is followed by a corrective phase where core stability and postural exercises are introduced, leading on to a maintenance phase where the intention is to keep you good and prevent the problem reoccurring.
It is always your choice how long you wish to benefit from chiropractic care. Whether it is your intention to get a quick fix to get rid of the pain, or to improve your health, we can tailor your program to fit your needs, desires and support your health goals.
